KiDZONE After School Program

KiDZONE After School Program

The goal of the KiDZONE After School program is to communicate positive messages to kids of all ages through an engaging, dynamic and interactive program.  Through skits, songs, games and activities, and, most importantly, personal relationships, kids are taught to be responsible, about their uniqueness and value, to respect their peers and authority, to be careful in potentially dangerous neighbourhoods and many other practical lessons.

KiDZONE operates from September to June at two different locations in Kitchener-Waterloo. Both sites are stationed at community centres in areas where there is identifiable need.

The weekly program operates at the following times:
Chicopee Centerville Community Centre
Tuesdays, 3:30pm – 4:30pm

Victoria Hills Community Centre
Thursdays, 3:00pm – 4:00pm

From the very beginning, KiDZONE Urban Ministries has helped families personally and practically.  The day before KiDZONE, volunteers visit families at their homes to meet parents, build relationships with the kids and look for ways we can help, whether its food, clothes or simply a listening ear.

Camp Dunamis

Camp Dunamis

In the summer of 2000, KiDZONE held the first, Camp Dunamis, a day camp for kids who attended KiDZONE during the school year.  Since then, Camp Dunamis has expanded into a full overnight camp experience for 100 kids every year.  Many of the kids at KiDZONE have never had a camp experience and Camp Dunamis has seen many kids swim in a lake, canoe, sit by a campfire, sing camp songs and sleep in cabins for the first time.  It is an exciting and full experience for every kid in attendance.  Camp Dunamis is only made possible through generous community donations enabling KiDZONE Urban Ministries to offer a full week of camp to kids and families at no cost.

Urban Events

Shining Star

Shining Star is Christmas food and gift drive for families involved in KiDZONE.  Many families in the communities KiDZONE serves are in need of assistance to purchase gifts and food at Christmas.  Through generous donations and partnering with other relief and benevolence organizations, we are able to give over 175 gifts and over 75 food boxes to families in need.  These gifts are given at our annual Shining Star Banquet, where over 350 people attend an elegant Christmas dinner for the whole family sponsored by KiDZONE Urban Ministries in partnership with Koinonia Christian Fellowship.

Mom’s Day

Mother’s Day is an occasion where KiDZONE Urban Ministries highlights the incredible role Moms have in the family unit.  One of the larger events we host, moms are treated to an afternoon of lunch, spa treatments by professional hair stylists, estheticians, massage therapists and makeup artists as well as an inspiring program while their kids are being watched by the KiDZONE volunteers.  This is another way KiDZONE supports families, reinforcing the importance of being parent and giving the moms an afternoon to be pampered.

Saturday Events

KiDZONE Urban Ministries regularly holds larger Saturday afternoon events, bringing together all the community centres and focusing on a central theme.  These are exciting events where we can use a full stage for an exciting program, outdoor fields, a full-sized gym and give away large prizes while reinforcing the lessons from the weekly KiDZONE program.
